Police: Elderly Man and Young Man Rob Woman Near Dobbin Center

The older man gave the woman a medallion of fake gold before the robbery.

Police reported two men, one approximately 70 years old and the other between the ages of 25 and 30, robbed a woman after convincing her to walk with them on Tuesday afternoon near Dobbin Center.

The strange incident began in a store near the 6500 block of Dobbin Road around 2 p.m. when an elderly man approached a woman and asked for directions, said police. Soon after, a younger man joined the conversation as the older man told the woman he was selling medallions, according to police. The elderly man then gave the woman a medallion, which appeared to be a small fake bar of gold, "because she looked like a nice person", reported police.

Then the younger man asked the woman if she would help him walk the older man across the street and once outside he asked her if she would sit with the older man on a bench, said police. The younger man said he needed to find his daughter, but when he returned he demanded money from the woman, according to police.

The woman said she didn't have any money in the bank, but after the younger man threatened her, she relented and withdrew money, reported police.

Then the younger man took the money, gave it to the older man and told the woman to walk away, which she did, said police.

Police said the victim cooperated with the suspects because she was afraid they knew where she lived.

Police described the suspects as one Hispanic male, 70 to 75 years old, with a small chubby frame and a dark complexion; the younger man was described as a Hispanic male, 25 to 30 years old, with brown pants, brown shoes or sandals.
