Columbia "Spa" Shut Down, Employee Arrested for Prostitution

A spa in Glenelg was also shut down after police found employees were not licensed.

A Columbia spa was among two spas shut down in Howard County by police for failure to have licenses. An employee at DS Spa, in the 9100 block of Rumsey Road in Columbia, was also arrested for prostitution.

Police said the 54-year-old female employee, of Flushing, NY, performed a sex act for money inside the business. A subsequent investigation did not find any evidence of human trafficking, but police did locate beds and condoms inside the six rooms at the spa.

Police also shut down Ten Oaks Spa in the 3800 block of Ten Oaks Road in Glenelg after receiving information about suspicious activity. An investigation found that the employees were not licensed.

The arrest and business closures are part of an ongoing Howard County Police effort to address prostitution concerns at local spas and throughout the county. Police said they're not only investigating prostitution, but also human trafficking as well.
