Tawanda W. Johnson spent nearly 20 years as a newspaper reporter covering a variety of topics, including education, minority affairs and municipal government. She worked at various newspapers across the country, including The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Baltimore Examiner and Gannet Suburban Newspapers. Before starting her reporting career, she earned a degree in journalism from Syracuse University. Tawanda recently earned a master's degree in strategic public relations from George Washington University. She works in Washington, D.C. as the press secretary for the American Physical Society and is the co-creator of the webcomic, Harambee Hills, with her husband, Kerry. They live in Columbia with their two children.
