Original Story A 1-year-old girl was injured after her mother's car collided with a school bus on Little Patuxent Parkway near Hickory Ridge Road on Wednesday morning, according to police. The Howard County school bus was travelling eastbound on Little Patuxent Parkway around 7:50 a.m. when an Acura, driven by the child's mother, made a left turn in front of the bus, according to a preliminary investigation by police. The bus hit the car near the rear passenger's side door, where the 1-year-old was sitting in a child restraint seat, said police. Heavy rainfall overnight on Wednesday soaked Howard County.
A rain storm that poured down on the county overnight on Wednesday caused flooding, road closures and downed trees. The storm swept through Maryland leaving approximately two inches of rainfall in an 18-hour period, according to National Weather Service (NWS) data. On Main Street in Historic Ellicott City, the Patapsco River rose so high it nearly reached the bridge that leads into Catonsville. Officials closed Main Street in the morning due to flooding and some businesses were dealing with the after-effects. Phoenix Emporium, Great Panes and Discoveries were just some of the Main Street businesses that said they experienced flooding due to the storm. “You get used to it,” said Len Berkowitz, owner of Great Panes, who was cleaning up …

The flood watch begins at 3 p.m. and continues through late tonight, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Howard County starting at 3 p.m. today through late tonight. NWS reported a line of heavy rain is making its way through the Shenandoah Valley and will hit the Baltimore and Washington metro areas this afternoon and evening. NWS predicted rainfall beween one and one and a half inches over a very short period of time. BGE announced that residents should expect wind gusts between 40 to 50 mph. “While we have enjoyed unseasonably mild weather the past two days, we expect conditions to drastically change with an approaching cold front that will likely bring thunderstorms and high wind and wind gusts to BGE’s service area later this evening,” said Jeannette M. All schools and offices will be closed Wednesday in Howard County for Yom Kippur.
On Wednesday, all Howard County schools and school offices will be closed for Yom Kippur. Howard County government offices, however, will be open on Wednesday. Schools will reopen at their regular times on Thursday. Yom Kippur, one of the most important holidays for Jews, is known as the Day of Atonement. According to rabbi Shmuel Herzfeld who wrote about the holiday in Tuesday's Washington Post, "Yom Kippur is a Jewish holiday that reminds us not to mistake routine for commitment. When we commit to God we have to put our heart and soul into it. We have to commit with both consistency and intensity." Yom Kippur begins at sundown on Sept. 25 and ends at sundown on Sept. 26.

Everyone always blames the bus. I didn't see it! Come on its big and yellow. I too drive a school bus and people are always trying to get in front of you, usually dangerously. I had someone run a stop sign into my bus path. Thank god none of the 35 children I had on were seriously injured only 13 went to hospital. All were ok. People need to pay attention.
