Store manager says they will not be renewing lease at the Mall in Columbia.
The L.L. Bean store at the Mall in Columbia will close on May 31, according to a store manager who spoke with Patch on Wednesday evening. The manager said employees had been notified and that L.L. Bean wouldn’t be signing a new lease at a smaller location at the mall. The manager declined to give her name when asked. "L.L.Bean has been a valued tenant at The Mall in Columbia," said Katie Essing, the mall's general manager in a statement. "We never like to see a retailer leave our property; but when that situation arrives, it provides us with another opportunity to continue to provide great retail options to our shoppers." L.L. A representative for the Mall in Columbia developer said the planned outdoor addition to the mall has a 'tremendous amount of interest' from retailers.
Representatives from General Growth Properties said the redevelopment of the Mall in Columbia will create a new outdoor experience, filled with outdoor seating for new restaurants, new stores and a pedestrian connection to the Lakefront and the new Warfield area developments. However, they did not say who would be moving into the proposed addition of 43,500 square feet of retail space during a presentation Tuesday night at Howard Community College. "At this point we have a tremendous amount of interest from retailers," said Jim Whitcome, senior development director for GGP. A meeting Tuesday night will provide more insight into the plans to redevelop the Mall in Columbia.
The L.L. Bean store at the Mall in Columbia is slated to be demolished and replaced with a smaller L.L. Bean location, according to initial plans to redevelop the Mall in Columbia. A meeting this evening at 6:30 p.m. at Howard Community College will provide more insight into General Growth Properties' plans to add 43,500 square feet of new retail space to the mall. As part of that plan, the L.L. Bean store will be removed to make room for a path that will connect the mall with the lakefront.
