Terrasa Elected County Council Chair

Mary Kay Sigaty elected vice chair.

  Jennifer Terrasa (D-Dist. 3) was elected chairperson of the Howard County Council at its legislative session on Dec. 3. The Council also elected Mary Kay Sigaty (D-Dist. 4) as the vice chairperson, Courtney Watson (D-Dist. 1) as the chair of the Zoning Board and Calvin Ball (D-Dist 2) as the vice chair of the Zoning Board. Greg Fox (R-Dist. 5) was elected chairperson of the Board of License Commisioners (liquor board) and Ball was elected vice chair. The officers will serve from Dec. 3, 2012 until Dec. 2, 2013. Terrasa, a lawyer by trade, was first elected to the Council in November 2006. She represents North Laurel, Savage, Guilford, and parts of Jessup and Columbia. LOOK: Hammond Wins on New Turf

Local leaders cut the ribbon on one of the first three synthetic fields in Howard County on Friday.

By Polly Khoury Delegates Frank Turner and Guy Guzzone, Board of Education Member Ellen Flynn Giles, County Council member Jen Terrasa and Howard County Public School System's Chief Academic Officer, Linda Wise, were all on hand to help Hammond High School officially open their newly installed synthetic turf field. Before kick off of the first game of the season, Principal Marcy Leonard thanked those who worked on the school's behalf, in particular, former Booster President, Ralph Albano, who rallied support for the field among Hammond parents and community members. County Council and County Executive Sworn In (With Video)

Smaller crowd endures cold weather to see "sequel" swear-in ceremony.

Violins, cello and bass welcomed about 300 people from the bitter winds to the swearing-in of the Howard County executive and council at Howard High School on Monday night. National Public Radio's Korva Coleman emceed the occasion, where all six incumbents again took the oath to serve the county. Administered by Clerk of the Court Margaret Rappaport, Ken Ulman was sworn in as county executive, along with county council members Courtney Watson (District 1), Calvin Ball (District 2), Jen Terrasa (District 3), Mary Kay Sigaty (District 4) and Greg Fox (District 5).
