Burglars Strike Columbia Jewelry Store by Smashing Wall: Crime Roundup

Columbia  Commercial Robbery/burglary Police say burglars broke a back window to Concentra, on the 6600 block of Dobbin Road, on Jan. 21 at 3:30 a.m. The burglars then used sledgehammers to break through the wall and gain access to J&D Jewelers, next door, according to police. Once inside the jewelry store, police say the burglars used a pick axe to break open jewelry display cases and steal an undetermined amount of jewelry. Police say a man entered the Exxon gas station on the 8200 block of Snowden River Parkway at about 1:45 a.m. on Jan. 19 with a yellow bandana over his face and showing a knife. The man demanded cash from the register, according to police, took three packs of cigarettes, and left. The suspect is described as a black …

Extreme Cold, Probable Snow into Thursday Morning

The National Weather Service again shows snow in the forecast.

Here we go again.  The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook, warning of extreme cold temperatures and, yes, snow. According to NWS, a wind chill advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday. Wind chill advisories are serious business – they are issued only when wind chills could be “life threatening if action is not taken.” Without the wind chill, temperatures are expected to feel about 17 degrees tonight. With the wind chill factored in, it will feel more like 5 degrees at times.  Then there’s the snow. There is a 70 percent chance of flurries Wednesday night into Thursday morning, according to NWS. Urn Stolen from Columbia Residence: Howard County Crime Reports

The following information was supplied by the Howard County Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

  Columbia Residential burglary - Sweetwind Place An urn containing ashes was stolen from a hallway closet from a residence near the 5700 block of Sweetwind Pl. sometime between Jan. 14 and 15. Police reported no signs of forced entry, although the rear slider was found open. Robbery - Columbia 100 Parkway A man walking down Columbia 100 Parkway on the Hampton Inn Parking lot reported to police he was followed by a man, then robbed at knife-point of his wallet by another man. The victim told police he saw a gray Ford Mustang drive by him several times, and believed the suspect may have escaped in the Mustang. Indecent Exposure at the Mall, Robbery Nearby: Crime Roundup

  Columbia Indecent exposure Police say several young girls did not notice a man in the Columbia Mall with his pants unzipped, exposing himself on Jan. 13 at about 2:30 p.m. A witness saw the man following the girls, however, and called police. Police said they could not locate the girls, or the suspect. He is described as a white male in his 50s, between 5-foot-6 and 6-feet-tall, weighing about 250lbs. He had thinning, brown/gray hair that was parted on the side. He was wearing square glasses, a short, blue corduroy jacket with a wool collar, a black t-shirt with a design and writing on it and gold, corduroy pants with a black belt. Suspect Throws Coffee During Exxon Robbery: Crime Roundup

Columbia Commercial Robbery Police say two men entered the Exxon on the 8200 block of Snowden River Parkway at about 3 a.m. on Jan. 4, one threw hot coffee at the clerk’s face while the other went behind the counter and stole money from the register. The clerk told police that one of the men had a shiny object in his hand. Both men left on foot.  Police describe the suspects as two black men, one wearing a puffy blue coat and black pants, the other wearing a mask, a black jacket and black pants. Burglary/attempted burglary  Police say someone reported the front door had been kicked in at a vacant residence on the 5600 block of Tricross Drive on Jan. 3. Armed Robbery on Thunderhill Road: Howard County Crime Reports

  Columbia Armed Robbery - Thunderhill Road A man's iPhone was stolen after a buyer the man had arranged a meeting with through Facebook to sell the phone displayed a handgun and walked off with phone around 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 near the 5800 block of Thunderhill Road. Armed Robbery - Harpers Farm Road/ Turnabout Lane Three men approached a man near the intersection of Harpers Farm Road and Turnabout Lane. Two of them displayed knives while a third stole the man's wallet and keys around 10:50 p.m on Dec. 27. Police provided the following descriptions of the suspects: Possible Attempted Breaking and Entering - Cross Fox Lane Two men, both wearing blue jackets, were heard by a resident banging on his door and possibly using a tool to gain …
