Glenelg Teen Seriously Injured after Collision

The 18-year-old crashed a Cadillac Escalade into a tree on Triadelphia Mill Road early Friday, according to police.

  An 18-year-old Glenelg man is in serious condition after colliding with a tree in a Cadillac Escalade on Triadelphia Mill Road early Friday morning, according to police. Police said Zachary Jacob Hanlon was traveling southeast on Triadelphia Mill Road near Michele Drive around 2:30 a.m. when the 2008 Cadillac Escalade he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree. Hanlon was ejected from the vehicle in the collision, said police. Hanlon was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition. Police determined Hanlon was not wearing a seatbelt and that excessive speed was a factor in the collision.

Teenager in Mt. Hebron Collision Remains Critical

Patch readers say the Mt. Hebron lot -- and all high school lots -- can be dangerous.

The 18-year-old driver in last week’s collision near an Ellicott City high school remains in critical condition Monday, according to a spokesperson at University of Maryland’s Shock Trauma Center. Jeffrey Conner Sinclair was leaving a Mt. Hebron parking lot after shcool on Thursday, Jan. 3, with four passengers in a Honda Civic. Police say Sinclair drove onto Route 99 in front of a Mack truck.  The collision, police said, may have been a result of Sinclair’s failure to stop at a stop sign. The four passengers with him were all treated at Howard County General Hospital and released; a helicopter flew Sinclair to Shock Trauma, where he has remained in critical condition for three days. Legally the driver may be at fault, I was not there but that is one issue. The exit is unsafe or another exit which is clearly safer is restricted and the inexperienced driver does not have access is another issue.   more ›

Dale Audet may spend 18 months in jail for his involvement in a deadly collision in Elkridge.

Parents of two teenagers killed in a collision on Lawyers Hill Road last year spoke a lot about forgiveness at a sentencing hearing for the 19-year-old who had been driving more than 70 mph at times on the hilly, windy road in Elkridge. Dale Kirk Audet, of Linthicum pleaded guilty in September to two counts of criminal negligent manslaughter In statements made in Circuit Court Wednesday, victims' parents talked about how they came to forgive - or were trying to forgive - Audet. He had been “hill jumping” - accelerating over hills - on Nov. 25 of last year when the car he was driving went airborne and struck a tree, killing 19-year-old Jeffrey Giles of Linthicum and 18-year-old Jonathon Deckman, of Severn, who were passengers in the car.  …

Update - Police: 3 Men Dead in Elkridge Collision

Route 1 will be closed while police investigate.

  Update - 1 p.m. - According to Howard County Police, U.S. Route 1 re-opened at about noon Thursday, about six hours after a fatal collision. All three men were from Prince George's County, according to Explore Howard. Original Story Howard County police believe three men are dead after the car they were in collided with a tractor-trailer in Elkridge Thursday morning. Two Killed in Sunday's Fatal Collision, 8-Year-Old Seriously Injured

More information about the deadly collision was released Tuesday by state police.

  Maryland State police have released more information Tuesday on the fatal crash Sunday officials originally said killed one woman and seriously injured a child. Officials said Tuesday that two people were killed in the accident early Sunday morning on Interstate 95 North near Waterloo Road in Columbia after a three-car collision. On Monday, a state police spokesperson told Patch there was one confirmed fatality: Sadia Soto, 31, of Arlington VA., was killed after being trapped in a Toyota 4Runner that was engulfed in flames. UPDATED: One Dead in Sunday Collision, Child Seriously Injured

Maryland State police said a woman was killed after her vehicle was engulfed by flames.

  Update - Oct. 8 - 10:15 a.m. Monday One woman was killed and a young child was seriously injured after a 3-car accident in which the woman's car was engulfed in flames early Sunday morning on Interstate 95 near Waterloo Road in Columbia, according to the Maryland State Police. Sadia Soto was killed in the accident, according to police. Soto's age and hometown were not released by police. State police spokesperson Sgt. Marc Black said Soto was pulling a trailer with a 1997 Toyota 4Runner on I-95 when the trailer became disengaged. Soto pulled over and attempted make repairs on the trailer. Biker, 14, Seriously Injured in Town Center Collision

The teen was flown to Johns Hopkins Children's Center after being struck.

A 14-year-old boy is in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the road on a bicycle near the intersection of Governor Warfield Parkway and Twin Rivers Road in Town Center around 12:50 p.m., according to police. After being struck, police said the teen was airlifted to Johns Hopkins Children's Center. The teen was struck by a 2010 Nissan Murano traveling southbound on Governor Warfield through a green light, according to police. The driver was not injured and police said speed was not a factor. Police said the boy, who is from Columbia, but whose name was not released, was crossing the road on a red 'Don't Walk' signal. Kids are constantly playing chicken around Columbia ignoring signs & they're taught this by their parents - there are so many people who cross roads outside of crosswalks. Rather than using the footbridge across Columbia Rd tonight, I saw an adult couple sauntering across the street. As a mom, I always point out these things to my daughter as poor decisions.   more ›

Crew Rescues Woman After Vehicle Crashes Into Pool

Rescue officials said the vehicle traveled down a 100-foot embankment before crashing into a swimming pool.

A vehicle carrying one passenger crashed into a pool after traveling down a 100-foot embankment near the 6600 block of Carlinda Avenue in Columbia, according to a county press release. Howard County Fire and Rescue Services responded to an incident at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday to assist police and found a driver trapped in a vehicle, which was submerged in a swimming pool. Personnel accessed the driver with ladders and a rope rigging system, and found the elderly woman conscious but disoriented in water up to her chest, according to county fire spokesperson Eric Proctor. A unit transported the patient to University of Maryland Shock Trauma, and her status was "critical but stable" as of 11 a.m. today, said fire spokesperson Jackie Cutler.
