The arrests were made for DUI and disorderly conduct.
Howard County Police reported there were two arrests related to Wine in the Woods over the weekend. A motorist was arrested and charged with driving under the influence Sunday after her vehicle collided with a tree in the Green Lot of Merriweather Post Pavillion as she was leaving Wine in the Woods, according to Sherry Llewellyn a spokesperson for Howard County Police. On Saturday, a cab was ordered for an intoxicated man but when it arrived, he refused to get in and allegedly became disorderly. He then reportedly hit another person and started running down Little Patuxent Parkway shouting at people and cars, according to Llewellyn. Wine in the Woods, the Columbia Triathlon at Centennial Park and concerts at Merriweather Post Pavilion; there’s plenty to do in Howard County this weekend. And, there will be plenty of traffic, too. The Howard County Police want drivers to know in advance where to expect congestion, detours and police officers directing traffic. On Saturday, Wine in the Woods is bringing 32 Maryland wineries to Symphony Woods. The festival attracts about 30,000 attendees, and with them, a significant amount of traffic. Police warn the roads will be congested all day on Broken Land Parkway and Little Patuxent Parkway, and that delays are especially heavy between 12:30-2 p.m. The Columbia Triathlon kicks off Sunday at 7 a.m. in Centennial Park. 30,000 people are expected to attend the 20th anniversary of the festival in Columbia this weekend.
Paul Farragut was serving as a Howard County Council member back in 1990 when he first pitched the idea to invite Maryland wineries to showcase their wines in Howard County. He said he had seen the success of the Maryland Wine Festival in Caroll County and believed it could be emulated. “It came as a simple suggestion when it came to the Council,” Farragut said about Howard County’s premier festival—Wine in the Woods, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this weekend. “I’m not even sure I suggested Symphony Woods,” said Farragut in an interview this week about the origins of Wine in the Woods. “I was thinking of two areas at the time; Symphony Woods and the Howard County Fairgrounds.” He took the idea to the County Executive at the …

On tap are Wine in the Woods, which showcases Maryland wineries under the large trees at Symphony Woods on Saturday and Sunday and the 2nd Annual Clyde’s Craft Beer Festival at the Town Center lakefront from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. "It needed to be more metropolitan to be more successful,” said Jim Oremland, the chairman of the event.
Amid declining attendance, American Cancer Society’s “Taste For Life” food and wine event that has been traditionally held in Clarksville will be changing its location to the Lyric Opera House in Baltimore and becoming more food-centric this year. For 12 years, the event, which usually attracts 400 to 600 guests and donates all proceeds to the ACS, was held at Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville. But this year, organizers decided to revamp the event’s focus and location. “It was a much-needed change; it needed to be more metropolitan to be more successful,” said Jim Oremland, the chairman of the event. “It had run its course here.” Oremland also said that despite the renewed focus on food, the event is still about wine, too. “Although it will…
