The political satire comedy group is performing for a fundraiser to benefit the League of Women Voters of Howard County.
If election season has you feeling frustrated, confused, angry or hopeless, take some time this weekend to bring the laughs back to America’s political process. The political comedy group the The Capitol Steps will take the stage on Sunday at 4 p.m. for a fundraiser to benefit the Howard County League of Women Voters. The League uses the funds to distribute its election guides and operate its organization, according to League co-president Alice Giles. “It’s a really good event and it’s really fun,” said Giles. “It’s a mockery of everybody.” The satire group was founded 30 years ago by a group of Congressional staffers who wanted to point out the ridiculousness of Washington’s antics, according to its website. Howard Community College will host its 25th annual equestrian show on Saturday to help raise scholarship funds.
In nearby Clarksville this weekend, capitalize on the opportunity to watch professional horse jumping and help students pay for tuition. The 25th annual Howard Community College Grand Prix will feature professional riders navigating a show jumping course for prize money. But in addition, proceeds will be used to provide scholarships to HCC students. This weekend, the show is in our very own sky. The Perseid Meteor Shower 2012 hits its stride this weekend, late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
