Police: Surveillance Footage Leads to Arrest in Snowden Gas Station Robbery

The man was seen on surveillance video buying cigarettes the day before he allegedly robbed the store with his face covered.

  Police charged a 31-year-old man with armed robbery of a Snowden Exxon after a store clerk recognized the man as a customer from the day before. Cedric Ryan Murphy, who has no fixed address, was charged in the robbery. Police said a clerk at the gas station recognized the man who robbed him, even though his face was partially covered with a bandanna, as the same man who bought a pack of Newport cigarettes the day before. The man was wearing the same clothes on both days, according to police, who reviewed security footage from the incident. During the robbery, the man threatened the clerk with a knife and stole two to three cartons of Newport cigarettes and cash, said police. The robbery occurred Jan. 19. Police Release Video of Exxon Robbery Suspect

Police say the suspect went to the store a few hours before returning to rob it.

Police are looking for a man in connection with the second robbery of the same Howard County gas station in a less than a month.  A reward of up to $500 is being offered for information leading to an arrest. Police responded to a reported robbery at the Exxon gas station on the 8200 block of Snowden River Parkway in Columbia at about 1:45 a.m. on Jan. 19. Investigators say a man entered the business wearing a yellow bandanna covering his face, showed a knife and demanded money. Police say the clerk gave the money to the man, who also took several cartons of cigarettes before leaving, getting into the passenger side of a waiting vehicle. Snowden Exxon Robbed Three Times Since September

Police arrested two people suspected to be involved in one robbery in which coffee was thrown at the gas station's clerk.

  It appears to be a series of unfortunate events occurring at the Exxon gas station near the 8200 block of Snowden River Parkway. The gas station has been robbed three times in less than six months, according to past police reports. Police announced Thursday they made arrests in one of the reported robberies. "We're working with police," said Mirsad Basar, manager of the gas station, who said they have supplied surveillance videos to police. "It's just random, maybe bad luck." good idea except that bail only has to deal with risk of flight, period. It's not supposed to be punitive. If they've never missed a court date and are not likely to flee then they are entitled to a reasonable bond. But, one does have to ask, 10% on a $100,000 bond is $10K, where did they come up with that kind of cash? I hope it's not from robbing gas stations. That's a tidy sum of cash.   more ›
