A Columbia man was sentenced to 70 years after he pleaded guilty to first-degree murder before the conclusion of his retrial.
The retrial of a Columbia man previously convicted of first-degree murder came to an abrupt end on Monday when the man pleaded guilty to first-degree murder at Howard County Circuit Court. The sixth day of the retrial was set to get underway, when prosecutors and the defense attorney announced that a plea agreement had been reached. That was when Antajuan Lawntee Wilson, 23, pleaded guilty to the 2008 Wilde Lake murder he was previously convicted of in December of 2008, according to Wayne Kirwan, spokesperson for the Howard County state's attorney's office. The retrial had been ordered by the Maryland Court of Appeals after it was determined the jury in Wilson's 2008 trial had not been properly advised. After pleading guilty, Wilson was …

Defense says shooting of Bryan Adams is not first-degree murder during retrial of Antajuan Lawntee Wilson.
During opening statements of the retrial of a Columbia man convicted of first-degree murder in 2008, it was announced by the prosecution that the murder weapon had been found during the dredging of Lake Kittamaqundi. The weapon was not present in the original 2008 trial of Antajuan Lawntee Wilson, 23, whose retrial is underway at Howard County Circuit Court. Wilson had been convicted of killing Bryan Antoine Adams Jr. outside the Wilde Lake Village Center. During opening statements Tuesday, Assistant State's Attorney Doug Nelsen said workers dredging the north end of Lake Kittamaqundi found a handgun. The dredging operation took place in 2010 and 2011. Nelsen said officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms later matched …

Antajuan Wilson was convicted of the murder of a Columbia man in 2008, but a higher court ordered a retrial after an error.
A Columbia man convicted of a 2008 Wilde Lake murder will be retried beginning this week. Antajuan Lawntee Wilson, 23, of Columbia, was convicted of the first-degree murder of Bryan Antoine Adams Jr., 20, who was shot to death outside the Wilde Lake Village Center in April of 2008. However, the conviction was overturned after Maryland's highest appellate court ruled the jury instruction in the trial was insufficient, according to Explore Howard. The court ruled the jury was not instructed to take into account that Wilson may have been in a "kill-or-be-killed situation" and could have been acting in "imperfect self-defense", which is grounds for a reduced sentence, according to the report. Wilson has been held in prison since his 2008 …
Teachers across the country have been attending self defense classes post-Sandy Hook, according to news reports.
Jeff Mount of Krav Maga Maryland said the key to survival in an active shooting scenario is decisiveness in the moment. "To freeze is the most dangerous option," said Mount, 30, the director of operations and lead instructor at Krav Maga Maryland, a self defense school in Columbia. "It creates an extreme sense of helplessness that pervades the circumstance." After following news of recent tragedies like the Sandy Hook shooting, Mount said his business wanted to do something. As a result, Krav Maga Maryland is offering local teachers the opportunity to learn self defense techniques to ward off an active shooter for free at a seminar on Jan. 12. Mount described Krav Maga, pronounced like Krahv Mah-gah, as a self defense system designed to …

Just before the robbery on Friday, Kim said he was taking trash out of the rear door to the dumpster when he was confronted by an armed masked man who was waiting for him at the door.
