Police: Wilde Lake High Rape Occurred in Choir Room

Police provided a more detailed outline in court documents of what they said happened at Wilde Lake High School earlier this week.

The 14-year-old female who accused a fellow student of raping her at Wilde Lake High School told police the incident happened Monday inside a choir room, according to the statement of probable cause filed in court documents. Police said that the school provided evidence that shows the girl and DeShawn Rasheed Jones, 17, entering and leaving the choir room, as well as the 14-year-old taking one of her friends to the restroom after it happened, according to the documents. Jones is currently being held on $500,000 bond, according to court officials. He is being charged as an adult with second-degree rape, second-degree assault and false imprisonment. E. Callahan- I understand you are posting in defense of your friend, the principle Mr. Lemon however, the parents and teachers who are quite familiar with the every day functions in Wilde Lake know much better then what you are "preaching". Columbia Self Defense School to Offer 'Active Shooter Seminar' Free for Teachers

Teachers across the country have been attending self defense classes post-Sandy Hook, according to news reports.

Jeff Mount of Krav Maga Maryland said the key to survival in an active shooting scenario is decisiveness in the moment. "To freeze is the most dangerous option," said Mount, 30, the director of operations and lead instructor at Krav Maga Maryland, a self defense school in Columbia. "It creates an extreme sense of helplessness that pervades the circumstance." After following news of recent tragedies like the Sandy Hook shooting, Mount said his business wanted to do something. As a result, Krav Maga Maryland is offering local teachers the opportunity to learn self defense techniques to ward off an active shooter for free at a seminar on Jan. 12. Mount described Krav Maga, pronounced like Krahv Mah-gah, as a self defense system designed to …

School Board Hopefuls Question Superintendent Search

Two incumbents revealed information about process of selecting the school system's new leader.

Some candidates running for the three open seats on Howard County's school board said the Board of Education lacked openness in its decision this week to select Renee Foose, deputy superintendent in Baltimore County, as the new superintendent of Howard County schools. That contention was supported by at least one member of the current school board. “I am very pleased with the candidate we ended up with,” said incumbent Allen Dyer. “However, the process was fatally flawed." School board candidate Ann De Lacy agreed during a forum hosted by the Greater Elkridge Community Association on Wednesday. "I do have a problem with the transparency," she said. De Lacy and some of the 12 other school board candidates at the forum expressed concern …
