Slow Cooker Recipes for Fall

Make these tasty fall slow cooker recipes using your favorite fall fruits and vegetables.

Fall is the time for hearty, warm meals—what better way to cook in the fall than using your slow cooker? Simmer these fall-ingredient (think pumpkins, apples, and squash) slow cooker recipes in your pot, and you’ll feel warm into the winter. Apple Crumble Crock Pot Recipe Ingredients: 4-5 cooking apples, peeled and sliced 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed 1/2 cup flour  3/4 cup rolled oats 1 teas ground nutmeg 1 teas ground cinnamon 4 T butter, softened Directions: Lightly butter the crockpot and lay the apple slices at the bottom of the crock. Pumpkins have more than one use besides being carved into a spooky face.

Just in time for Halloween is another sweet treat besides candy — pumpkins.  “They are a good source of Vitamin A, fiber, beta carotene and potassium, and you can make many pumpkin treats,” said Amanda Hillesland, dietician at Howard County General Hospital. “Some pumpkins are better for eating and cooking, namely Cinderella pumpkins or the other smaller pumpkins.” Pumpkins are great because not only can the insides be eaten, but the seeds can be salted and baked in an oven for an easy salty snack.
