The schools were cleared after police tracked down the source of the gunshots.
Clarksville Middle School and Pointers Run Elementary School went into modified lockdown Monday at 12:30 p.m. after gunshots were heard in the area, according to a letter sent home to parents. Doors were locked and all outdoor activities were ceased at the schools as police investigated, according to the letter. Police spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn said the gunshots came from an adult male who was engaged in target practice on a 26-acre farm off of Hall Shop Road, about a mile or two from the schools. "This is permissable," wrote Llewellyn in an email, "since he was not near homes, roads or any public land." The schools were given the all clear by police at 1:10 p.m. and went back to normal activities, according to the letter.
