No. 3 seed River Hill begins tournament with a bye.
Three MPSSAA first round softball games feature Howard County schools competing against each other. In the Class 3A tournament, fifth-seeded Mt. Hebron will host 12th-seeded Centennial, seventh-seed Reservoir will face 10th-seed Hammond and eighth-seed Wilde Lake will battle ninth-seed Howard. Mt. Hebron defeated Centennial in both of the previous meetings this season, by scores of 16-2 and 10-0, respectively. Though Reservoir received the higher seed, Hammond has defeated the Gators twice. River Hill earned a No. 3 seed and a first round bye. The Hawks will play the winner of 6-seed Atholton and 11-seed Annapolis. After a 14-5 regular baseball season, Atholton earned a weekend’s worth of rest. The Raiders secured a No. 2 seed and a bye for the first round of the Class 3A MPSSAA playoffs. They will play the winner of the matchup between No. 7 seed Northeast and No. 10 seed River Hill. If River Hill wins its first round game, it could set up an intriguing rematch. On April 22, River Hill snapped an eight-game Atholton winning streak by defeating the Raiders 5-2. Howard County teams are guaranteed to face each other in each of the first two rounds as No. 5 seed Hammond hosts 12-seed Wilde Lake. The Baltimore Orioles hosted the New York Yankees Sunday night in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. Patch was on hand to capture images from the game.
Baltimore Orioles fans rocked the yard on Sunday night as the team hosted its first playoff game since 1997. Fans came early, but then waited through a lengthy rain delay before the game finally got underway at about 8:45 p.m. The game ended with a disappointing 7-2 loss to the New York Yankees. The Orioles play the New York Yankees on Sunday in the first game of the ALDS.
With an impressive 5-1 win over the Texas Rangers in the one-game wildcard playoff on Friday evening, the Orioles are now set to take on the New York Yankees in the five game American League Division Series. The ALDS begins Sunday at Baltimore at 6:07 p.m. on TBS. Meanwhile, the Nats wrapped up the top seed in the National League yesterday with a 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, taking them to 98-64 on the season. They'll go on the road Sunday to face the winner of Friday's one-game wild card playoff between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves. The best-of-five National League Division Series will then come to Washington Wednesday for one to three games, depending on how many wins each team racks up. The winner of that …
