Crews Fight Fire at Mulch Factory
The morning fire led to a road block on Rogers Avenue at Old Frederick Road in Ellicott City.
Howard County fire crews responded to a fire at a mulch factory in Ellicott City this morning, according to a Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson. When crews arrived at 22 Daniels Road at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, they encountered smoke coming from the four-story stone building. A roadblock was set up at the Rogers Avenue/Old Frederick Road traffic circle while crews took on the fire, according to spokesperson Jackie Cutler. The road was re-opened just after 9 a.m. Two factory employees were on-site, Cutler said, and no injuries were reported. Inside the building, crews found smoldering debris; the fire was under control by about 9:30 a.m., according to Cutler.

That building survived Agnes hurricane in1972. It was the only building in the whole community that survived. Daniels used to be a thriving factory workers community & the hurricane destroyed every bit of it. Now its all patapsco state park property and the mill/mulch factory is all that remains. Now a fire. What else can happen to that beautiful place?   more ›
