State Trooper in Serious Condition After Ellicott City Crash

Police say Cpl. Matthew Telep may have been cut off while driving home.

A Maryland State Police trooper injured after his vehicle struck a tree in Ellicott City Wednesday is listed in serious condition, according to a statement released by spokesman Greg Shipley.  Cpl. Matthew Telep’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening, according to the statement, released Wednesday evening. Howard County and Maryland State Police responded to eastbound Interstate 70 near MD Route 32 just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Howard County Police dispatch. When units arrived, according to the statement, they saw a marked state police vehicle off the roadway against a tree. A witness who called the barrack after the incident said that Telep may have been cut off by another vehicle, according to Shipley.  Telep…
