Columbia Resident Named National Weather Service Director
Louis W. Uccellini will be the 16th director of the National Weather Service.
A Columbia resident for over 30 years has been named the new director of the National Weather Service. Dr. Louis W. Uccellini, 63, who said he moved into his current house in Oakland Mills in August 1978, was selected as the 16th director of the National Weather Service, which this year marked its 143rd anniversary predicting and keeping records of weather. Uccellini will officially take the helm of the National Weather Service on Feb. 10. "I'm excited to get going, to lead this agency and to move it forward" said Uccellini, in an interview with Patch.
