Police said a Burtonsville man exposed himself twice inside the Mall in Columbia.
Howard County police said they arrested and charged a Burtonsville man in two reported incidents of indecent exposure at the Mall in Columbia after a mall employee spotted the man exposing himself in the food court on Wednesday night. Police said the mall employee saw the man, identified as Steven Michael Lerer, 49, of Burtonsville, standing near the food court with a jacket covering his genital area. When the man turned, the employee saw the man fondling himself and exposing his genitals, said police. The employee reported the man to mall security, who held him until police arrived, police said. Police have released additional photos of a man they said exposed himself behind a group of girls inside the Mall in Columbia. Police said the incident occurred during the afternoon on Jan. 13. Police described the suspect as a white male in his 50s, between 5-foot-9-inches and 6 feet tall, about 250 pounds, with dark hair, thick eyebrows, square glasses and protruding teeth. Police released a photo of a man on Tuesday believed to have exposed his genitals inside the Mall in Columbia while following a group of girls during the afternoon of Jan. 13. Police described the suspect as a white male in his 50s, between 5-foot-9-inches and six feet tall, about 250 pounds, with dark hair, thick eyebrows, square glasses and protruding teeth. Inside the mall, he was wearing a black t-shirt with gold or tan corduroy pants, reported police. A police spokesperson said the photo released is from a mall surveillance video and is the best-quality image available. Robbery Money was allegedly stolen from an individual at the Long Reach Village Center. A known person reportedly approached the victim, lifted his shirt to revealed a handgun, and demanded money at about 4 p.m. on Monday. The victim gave the suspect money. The assailant then fled, according to police. Police are continuing to investigate the incident. Police make arrest after receiving citizen complaint.
A man exposed himself in the parking lot of a Columbia Chick-fil-A the day after Christmas, according to police. The indecent exposure at the Executive Park Drive Chick-fil-A was reported at 8:23 p.m. on Dec. 26. "A citizen complained that this person was flashing people in the parking lot," said Elizabeth Schroen, spokeswoman for Howard County Police Department, in a phone interview. "People who saw it occur called police and provided a description of the vehicle." The alleged flasher drove away and was stopped by police at 8:51 p.m. on MD Route 100 at US 29. Police charged a Windsor Mill man with indecent exposure, DUI and DWI on Dec. 27; he has court dates set for March 2012.
