The Oakland Mills High School Scorpions, behind the stellar play of senior forward Greg Whittington (22 points), scored 29 points in the third quarter to take the lead and, eventually, the 68-49 win.
It was a return home, so to speak, for Marcellus Ajiboye, an Oakland Mills senior who had transferred there from Mt. Hebron following his freshman year. But it was not a welcome home. Three years later, the Vikings' faithful still have not forgiven Ajiboye for leaving. Oakland Mills traveled Wednesday to Mt. Hebron, where the fans singled out the Scorpions' forward, chanting Ajiboye's name every time he touched the ball. The Mt. Hebron students even went as far as to fashion Ajiboye masks, which they were waving throughout the game. "I guess they were kind of salty," Ajiboye said with a smile. Yet nothing could shake Ajiboye, who scored 15 points. And the rest of the Oakland Mills team came on strong in the second half, outscoring the …

The Mt. Hebron High School Vikings defeated the Wilde Lake High School Wildecats 58-55, overcoming a late fourth quarter run by Wilde Lake.
The Mt. Hebron Vikings had held the lead over the Wilde Lake Wildecats all night until the fourth quarter. Then the momentum changed. Wilde Lake made made a charge, but Mt. Hebron found a way to pull it out in the end behind excellent guard play and good defense, with the Vikings defeating the Wildecats, 58-55. Up by four heading into the fourth, Mt. Hebron seemed to have this game under control. With less than two minutes left, however, Wilde Lake's Dante Garner gave the Wildecats their first lead since the opening minutes of the game. Still, Mt. Hebron would not stay down. At the 1:19 mark, junior Deonte Moses of the Vikings tied the game on free throws. And with 30 seconds left, Malik Gilmore gave Mt. Hebron the lead for good on a layup…

The Mt. Hebron High School Vikings used their speed and three-point shooting to outlast the determined Howard High School Lions.
In a Monday evening game that saw numerous lead changes and featured strong play from both teams, the Howard Lions eventually fell at home to the Mt. Hebron Vikings, 57-48. The Vikings are a team on a roll with a prolific scorer and passer in 6-foot-3 sophomore Malik Gilmore and the lightning fast 6-foot junior Deonte Moses. Coming into the game, first-year Howard coach Matthew Jens knew the Lions would have their hands full with Moses' speed and ability to score from all over the court. "We tried to stop him," Jens said. "But he was fast and he went to the line a lot." Moses would finish with 25 points. Malcom Tatum finished with 14 for Howard and Tadas Pakalniskis had 12. The teams appeared closely matched as the game began, with sharp …

The Mt. Hebron Vikings beat the Hammond Golden Bears 66-53 on Friday night, thanks in large part to a dominating defensive performance in the second half.
It was a tale of two halves Friday night: In the first, the home team Hammond Golden Bears and the visiting Mt. Hebron Vikings were even, entering halftime tied at 27. But in the second half, the Vikings' defense shut down Hammond. The Vikings allowed only eight points in the third quarter, and Mt. Hebron went on to defeat the Golden Bears by a final score of 66-53. Both teams seemed evenly matched throughout the first half, with both offenses beginning to click after some early turnovers. The first quarter featured knock-down shooting from Hammond, which hit three of four from deep and finished the night shooting 50 percent (9-18) from three-point range. Mt. Hebron would find most of its points in the paint, especially in the second …

The Marriotts Ridge Mustangs went into Mt. Hebron High School and handed the Vikings their first loss, 67-62.
In front of a big crowd inside the gym at Mt. Hebron High School, the Vikings fell Friday to the visiting Marriotts Ridge Mustangs, 67-62. It was not as close as the score would seem to indicate—the Mustangs dominated the Vikings in the second half to pick up the victory. "I think we just got outplayed," said Mt. Hebron coach Michael Linsenmeyer. "They passed the ball better and they played harder then us. We deserved to lose and they deserved to win." The first quarter saw both teams start as cold as it was outside; neither team was really able to find an offense and get into a rhythm. Neither team scored any points in the paint until there was under a minute left in the quarter. Both teams had their lowest scoring quarter of the game. …
