13-Year-Old Among Those Charged in Serial Howard County Burglaries

One 13-year-old, two 14-year-olds and a 17-year-old are believed to be involved with a string of burglaries that began in November, police said.

  Four Columbia teens were charged this week in a string of 16 commercial burglaries at Howard County businesses, including a recent jewelry store burglary in which a neighboring business had its wall sledgehammered to gain entry. Of those charged, one is 13-years-old, two are 14, and one is 17, according to police. Police said the juveniles colluded with Charles Rodriguez, a 24-year-old Columbia man, who was charged with selling their stolen merchandise after one of the incidents. Police said they believe the teens are responsible for a Jan. 22 burglary in which the suspects broke a back window at Concentra Urgent Care on Dobbin Road, then sledgehammered through a wall of the business to enter J&D Jewelry, where they stole an undetermined…

You can't blamed it on parents, these kids are out of control. My 14 yrs old girl sneaked out at nights when I'm asleep. I'm a divorced mom, and also a working mom. The laws need to be toughter on kids. Also it's an epidemic in this country where kids get away with alot of crime because they're young. Two Attempts to Steal ATMs Overnight in Columbia Unsuccessful

A series of commercial break-ins were reported in Columbia overnight on Jan. 3.

  Four overnight break-ins on Jan. 3 resulted in smashed glass windows, ransacked businesses, but nothing taken, according to police. Police reported a break-in at Lakeside Cafe and Deli around 2 a.m., then another at Mad City Coffee and Columbia Nail Salon which are next to each other on Hickory Ridge Road at 4:38 a.m. and then a break-in at Cradlerock Mart at 5 a.m. In two of the break-ins, at Lakeside and Cradlerock, attempts were made to remove ATMs from the businesses, but were unsuccessful. At Lakeside, a side glass window was smashed and pry marks were found on the ATM, although nothing was reported stolen. At Cradlerock Mart, several unknown persons were seen fleeing from the scene near the 6800 block of Cradlerock Way where an ATM…

Thief Takes Video Games, Liquor: Columbia Crime Round-Up

Residential Break-ins An unknown suspect or suspects entered a ground floor apartment through an unlocked rear window near the 9700 block of Clocktower Lane and allegedly took video games, video game consoles, a digital camera, jewelry, watches, clothes and bottles of liquor around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. On Friday around 6:30 a.m. a known juvenile suspect allegedly stole a hat and watch from a residence near the 9200 block of Sealed Message Road. The investigation is continuing, according to police. A homeowner told police that between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Friday a laptop and television were allegedly stolen from a residence near the 6100 block of Good hunters Ride.
