The project to extend water and sewer mains between Eliot's Oak Drive and Centennial Lane is ongoing, says county official.

Residents traveling during the day on MD 108 near Clark's Elioak Farm have likely noticed the construction going on nearby due to the road being shifted to a single lane. Expect that to continue between Iron Bridge Wine Company and Eliots Oak Road until the end of May, according to Paul Di Marco, a project manager for Howard County Public Works. Flagging operations will continue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as construction takes place near the westbound lane, according to Di Marco. Ever since they changed the time and cycle of the lights, getting to the 108 exit off of 32 is near impossible around 5-6 pm. The back up goes all the way down 32 and what used to take only a few minutes to get to the light at 108, now takes about 20. People stopping and going, slamming suddenly on brakes, there are going to be some bad accidents all due to what they have done to the timing of …   more ›

Clarksville Residents Protest Proposed Funeral Home

An attorney for the owner says the business has met county requirements.

A proposed funeral home on a 3-acre wooded lot on Route 108 in Clarksville ignited a debate that has continued almost two years between a funeral home operator and some residents who believe the business doesn’t belong in their community. “This is human nature,” said Shun Yu. “People do not like to live so close to a funeral home.” Yu, who lives in the Preserve at Clarksville, a new development of large residential homes, said the the business presents a quality of life issue for her community and others nearby. Yu and neighbor Brian Snow discussed the issue earlier this month. They cited cultural, sewage, community and environmental issues with the proposal.
