Could Charles Daniels' Columbia home be the best “decked” house in the country? Possibly. Daniels' home, which features almost 300,000 lights, was chosen as one of the 24 finalists in Patch's nationwide Deck the House contest. The house is located near the 5000 block of Durham Road East in Columbia. "I've been decorating for at least 13 years," said Daniels, who previously worked as an electrical engineer. "I've been retired for 13 years, so I have the time to put together a very nice Christmas display." Charles Daniels' 10 days of fame in the Patch Deck the House contest is winding down, but he said Friday he's had a fun run. There's still time to vote, by the way, by clicking here. Columbia's Deck the House contest finalist is hoping to pull it out in the last stage of the voting period and he said he's grateful to have done so well in the first house decorating contest he's ever entered. By popular vote, Daniels' house was Columbia Patch's winner in Patch's national decorated house contest. Judges then selected his light extravaganza to be one of 24 finalists competing for the national grand prize of $100,000 for the winner's local school system. Baltimore's TV Channel 2 is scheduled to broadcast live from Charles Daniels' Durham Road East house Friday morning.
Charles Daniels is enjoying his new fame as Columbia's Deck the House winner and national finalist for the grand prize of $100,000 to benefit local public schools. He was interviewed earlier this week by WUSA TV channel 9, and is planning a party of sorts for a live television broadcast from his front yard Friday morning. Baltimore's WMAR TV Channel 2, an ABC affiliate, will have a crew at Daniels' East Durham Road house from 4:30-7 a.m. Friday, according to Daniels.
