The Columbia resident, a graduate of Wilde Lake High, said she decided to run after talking with Liz Bobo.
After all three incumbents from District 12 announced they would retire from the state legislature, it didn't take long for candidates to begin announcing their intention to run in 2014. One of those candidates is Columbia's Terri Hill, a Democrat and plastic surgeon as well as a graduate of Wilde Lake High School and a resident of Harper's Choice. Hill said "politics is something I've always been fruitfully involved in" and that she decided to run after talking with Delegate Liz Bobo. She previously worked on Liz Bobo's 2010 election campaign and President Barack Obama's 2012 campaign, according to an Explore Howard report. Howard County's Economic Development Authority CEO, Laura Neuman, is one of 16 candidates who have submitted applications this month to become Anne Arundel County Executive. Neuman, a former entreprenuer and private sector CEO, has lived in Anne Arundel for over 20 years. She joined the Economic Development Authority in the spring of 2011. The county executive position became open after the former county executive, John Leopold, a Republican, resigned on Feb. 1 in the wake of being found guilty of misconduct in office. By law, the Anne Arundel County Council is charged with replacing Leopold with another Republican. Questions will center around overcrowding in schools.
The Greater Elkridge Community Association (GECA) is scheduled to host the Board of Education candidates for a forum on Thursday in Elkridge that revolves around overcrowding in Howard County Public Schools. GECA wrote in an announcement for the forum that a redistricting plan to fill a new elementary school on Ducketts Lane in Elkridge to alleviate overcrowding is not a long-term solution. "Now is your chance to meet the Board of Education candidates, who we will elect in November, and ask them tough questions about how they plan to solve these problems," wrote GECA in the announcement. The Board of Education will be hosting two meet-and-greets Monday with finalists for the new HCPSS Superintendent.
The Howard County Board of Education (BOE) has selected two finalists for superintendent of schools. Dr. S. Dallas Dance, chief school officer for the Houston Independent School District in Texas, and Dr. Renee A. Foose, deputy superintendent of the Baltimore County Public Schools, will be introduced to school system employees and the community at two "meet and greet" events Monday, March 26 at the Department of Education building. From 2 - 4 p.m., each candidate will have one hour to meet with attendees informally. Then from 6 - 8 p.m. the BOE will host a question and answer forum for the community.
