Columbia Man Faces Federal Charges After Failed Undercover Police Sting

A Columbia man known by the nickname "Bloody Mike" faces federal assault and robbery charges.

On Nov. 8 of last year, Howard County Police responded to an armed robbery in Kings Contrivance. According to the Sun, the incident was a failed undercover police sting targeting Michael Dominique Johnson, 19, of Columbia. Police reportedly asked a police informant to attempt to make an undercover gun buy from suspects including Johnson at a house in Kings Contrivance in November, but the informant was robbed and pistol-whipped, according to the Sun. Johnson, a suspected Bloods gang member who is known by the name "Bloody Mike," faces federal assault and robbery charges, reports the Sun.   An Ellicott City man and Savage teenager also face charges in the incident. Bloods Gang 'Wreaking Havoc' in Maryland, Five Charged in Howard County

Federal authorities say they have charged more than 35 people in connection with a local arm of the California-based Bloods.

Federal authorities say five Howard County residents are part of an offshoot of the California-based South Side Brims Bloods gang, which police say has allegedly been involved in killings, robberies and drug trafficking. According to a September indictment, which was unsealed Thursday, 35 defendants now face conspiracy racketeering charges for operating a Maryland wing of the gang, an offshoot of the Bloods gang which was founded in Los Angeles in the early 1970s. Again we thank the Police for this fine work. Sorry to say that gang violence continues across the nation and many of their members have origins in other countries. Need to get the federal law enforcement agencies to step up and stop the flow and put gangs out of business. Elected leaders need to do much more to end the gangs and protect our communities.   more ›
