Mall Construction Site Burglary, Purse Thief Returns Purse: Crime Roundup

Columbia Commercial Burglary Video surveillance at the Mall in Columbia of March 23 showed two people arrive at about 12:50 a.m. and enter an unlocked door. They cut the lock to an inside door and entered a room under construction. About $3,500 in copper wire was reported stolen.  Robbery Police say the victim was visiting a friend on the 4900 block of Columbia Road on March 21 at about 12:50 p.m. when two more people arrived. All four were sitting on the couch talking when on of the two visitors grabbed the victim’s purse and ran outside with the other visitor, according to police. 23 Arrested in Tri-County Prostitution Sting

The investigation involved five police organizations.

  Twenty-three men were arrested in a tri-county undercover prostitution sting along Route 1 in the Jessup area involving federal, state and local police agencies, officials announced Wednesday. The men were arrested last week in the vicinity of previous prostitution stings, according to Mary Phelan, a spokesperson for Howard County police. The Thursday arrests come about two months after police arrested ten men in a July prostitution sting along Route 1 in Laurel, one of whom included a high-ranking Food and Drug Administration official. In May, police arrested eight men in another prostitution bust on Route 1. Phelan said police conducted the sting after receiving neighborhood complaints. Three Transported for Dehydration, None Arrested at Tuesday's Concerts

Despite large crowds, hot temperatures and loud bands; the people that attended Warped Tour at Merriweather on Tuesday were generally well behaved, according to police and fire officials.

  There were deathcore bands, mosh pits and thousands of young people at the Vans Warped Tour music festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Tuesday, but no one was arrested, according to Howard County Police. Three concert-goers were transported to Howard County General Hospital for dehydration, but no one was in serious condition, according to Jackie Cutler, a spokesperson for the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services. Bryce Buell, a police spokesperson, said traffic was heavy around Merriweather from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, but wasn't a problem during other times. Two Arrests Made at Wine in the Woods

The arrests were made for DUI and disorderly conduct.

Howard County Police reported there were two arrests related to Wine in the Woods over the weekend.  A motorist was arrested and charged with driving under the influence Sunday after her vehicle collided with a tree in the Green Lot of Merriweather Post Pavillion as she was leaving Wine in the Woods, according to Sherry Llewellyn a spokesperson for Howard County Police.  On Saturday, a cab was ordered for an intoxicated man but when it arrived, he refused to get in and allegedly became disorderly. He then reportedly hit another person and started running down Little Patuxent Parkway shouting at people and cars, according to Llewellyn. I don't want the county to sponsor or promote alcohol fueled events. How much money per person spent in the county does it take to offset the death/injury of our residents when wine fueled drunks drive home from this event? Do you have a dollar value for each life lost in drunk driving events? Is it okay to have someone killed if each participant spends $50 in the county, or maybe it needs to be…   more ›
