Girls on the Run; Owl Prowl: Weekend Events

Saturday - November 16


Girls on the Run Event - 8:30 a.m. - River Hill H.S. Track (12101 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville)

The local chapter of Girls on the Run, a national group that encourages girls to embrace their strengths, will host a morning run/ jog/ walk event at River Hill High School to provide more information about their program and prepare for the Fall 5k on December 7.

SpiderSmart Learning Center Open House - 1 p.m. - 9256 Bendix Road Suite 101, Columbia

SpiderSmart Learning Center invites families out to their new educational facility on Bendix Road to learn about their tutoring programs from 1 to 3 p.m.

Owl Prowl - 6:30 p.m. - Middle Patuxent Environmental Area

The Howard County Bird Club will lead a moonlit walk through the woods of the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area to listen and look for owls. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Robinson Nature Center at 410-313-0400. The cost is $8.

Columbia Jazz Band Concert - 7 p.m. - Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church (6410 Amherst Ave., Columbia)

The Columbia Jazz Band will play swinging brass, groovy bass lines and funky sax solos for those who attend this free event at Christ Memorial. The band will play two 45 minute sets from 7 to p.m., with an intermission in between.

Swingin' at the Museum7 p.m. - Howard County Historical Society Museum (8328 Court Ave, Ellicott City)

Swing band Ain't Misbehavin' will play big band music at the museum from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 for a single and $25 for a couple, but space is limited. You can purchase tickets by calling 410-480-3250 or emailing info@hchsmd.org. Part of the proceeds benefits the Howard County Historical Society.

Sunday - November 17


Oakland Mills Walking and Bus Tour - 1 p.m. - The Pavilion at Robert Oliver Place, Oakland Mills Village Center

County officials will attend a walking tour of the Oakland Mills Village Center and Verona Apartments to discuss the future of the village center and provide information about the county's purchase of Verona Apartments. Afterwards, a bus will take residents to Monarch Mills an apartment building recently redeveloped by the Housing Commission.

Green Valley Marketplace Tasting Event - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. - 7280 Montgomery Rd., Elkridge

The neighborhood market will host a 'Taste of the Season' event where it will have sampling stations and cooking demos throughout the day at its Elkridge store.
