BOO! Halloween Events in Howard County

Adult and family activities to spook you and your friends in Howard County this year.


Bennett's Curse Haunted House

What: Bennett's Curse is three haunted houses under one roof in Jessup. First there's the House of the Vampyres, then the Zombie Kingdom in 3D, and lastly the Sanctuary of Insanity. Bennett's is outdoor, and boots are recommended, especially if it rains. As it gets closer to Halloween, there's often a long line, according to Yelp reviews.

Where: 8024 Max Blobs Park, Jessup MD

When: The haunted house is open Thursday to Sunday until Halloween from 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursdays and Sundays and 7 to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Cost: Tickets are $30 for general admission, $45 for a speed pass, and $60 for VIP admission for next in line access. Cash only.

Haunted Experience at Rockburn Branch Park


What: Howard County Recreation and Parks and the Elkridge Adult Athletic Association are hosting this spooky hay ride through the trails at Rockburn Branch Park in Elkridge. There will be both "scary" hay rides for kids 7 and up as well as happy haunted hay rides for ages 2-7.

Where: Rockburn Branch Park (Montgomery Rd. entrance)

When: Scary hay rides take place Oct. 18, 25 from 7 to 10 p.m. and Oct. 19, 26 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. The happy haunted hay rides are Oct. 20 and 27 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Cost: Tickets for the scary hayrides are $10 per person, the happy haunted hay rides are $5 per person.

Living Farm Heritage Museum Haunted Hayride

What: "This event is not for the faint hearted", warns the Living Farm Heritage museum. The hay ride will transport people through a 3-mile woods and field area filled with actors wearing scary costumes "doing their very best to make you scream!" The hayride is subject to cancellation, so call ahead (410-489-2345) to make sure it's on.

Where: Living Farm Heritage Museum - 12985 Frederick Road, West Friendship, MD, 21794 (across from the Howard County Fairgrounds).

When: Oct. 12, 19, 26 from 7 to 10 p.m.

Cost: $15 per person

HallowRead

What: Authors of steampunk, paranormal fantasy and horror novels will descend on Ellicott City to talk about their books. Guests can take a ghost tour of Ellicott City or participate in discussion panels as well.

When: Friday, Oct. 25, starting at 7 p.m. to Sunday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m.

Where: 

Cost: Tickets range from $25 to $75 depending on what events a person wants to attend. More information on tickets can be found here.

Trick or Treat on Main Street

What: Store owners up and down Main Street will provide costumed kids with candy in this Historic District trick-or-treat session.

When: Oct. 31 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Where: Historic Ellicott City's Main Street

Ghost Walks at Historic Savage Mill

What: Take a tour of the spooky history of the now-bustling historic Savage Mill. The tour will wind around the old mill that is now a shopping center and end at Ram's Head Tavern for refreshments.

Where: New Weave Building, 8600 Foundry St., Savage, MD 20763

When: Oct. 12, 19, 26, 31, Nov. 2, Dec. 13 all starting at 8 p.m.

Cost: $13 regular; $11 active military, children and seniors

Ye Haunted History of Olde Ellicott City Tours

What: Experienced guides recount stories of local history and paranormal activity on a tour through Ellicott City's Historic Main Street. Tours are not recommended for children under 6.

Where: The tour begins at the Howard County Welcome Center - 8267 Main Street, Ellicott City

When: Fridays and Saturday nights starting at 8 or 8:30 p.m.

Cost: Tickets are $13 regular and $11 for military, children and seniors.

Halloween Spooktacular

What: This family-friendly event features moon bounces, a fire performance, balloon animals, superhero photo-ops and arcade games. Refreshments will include food trucks, beer and wine. The event is hosted by the Creig Northrop Team and all proceeds benefit the Burleigh Manor Animal Sanctuary.

When: Saturday, Oct. 26 from 3 to 9 p.m.

Where: Burleigh Manor, 3950 White Rose Way, Ellicott City

Cost: Tickets are free for kids under 17 and $10 for adults. You can buy tickets here.
