Sweatshirt Weather and Blog Party Approaching: Week Ahead in Howard County

What's happening this week in Howard County.

Weather - Cool, Sweatshirt weather all week

If the weather arrives like the National Weather Service predicts it to, it should be a gorgeous fall week. Tuesday - mostly cloudy with high near 55. Wednesday - mostly cloudy again with a high near 61. Thursday seems to be the only blemish, there's a 70 percent chance of showers with a high near 63, and then the sun comes out Friday with a high near 52. Each night the low temperature is predicted in the low 40s to mid 30s.

Howard County Bloggers Party

Local bloggers will meet for an informal party on Wednesday at Second Chance Saloon in Columbia starting at 5:30 p.m. and running until 8 p.m. In addition to local bloggers and their friends, the greater community is invited. Occasionally candidates and elected officials also attend.

Howard County Council Legislative Meeting

The Council's meeting begins Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the George Howard Building in Ellicott City. On the Council's docket is an agreement to finance a water main with the Waverly Woods Development Corporation, a bill amending pay scales for certain county employees, and a resolution to designate the southeast area of the county as a "Sustainable Community" in order to receive funding under the state's Community Legacy Program. Veteran's Day Approaching

Next Monday, Nov. 11, is Veteran's Day. County government offices, courts, libraries and animal shelters will be closed. However, there will be regular trash collection and the landfill will be open. Howard bus schedules will operate on a regular schedule.

What I'm Working on This Week

I, your humble editor, Andrew Metcalf, am working on a series of stories about how Common Core mathematics is being implemented in Howard County Schools. I'll be following up on what's going to happen with the land not being developed at the former Enchanted Forest site. And I hope to hear from you, possibly on the new Patch App, as things develop in the county. - AJ
