Volunteer Orientation - Give the Gift of Independence

On November 17, 2004 Neighbor Ride launched its volunteer-based transportation service with the mission to decrease isolation and improve the quality of life for Howard County’s older residents.  Today, our dedicated volunteers provide an average of 1,200 trips per month for medical appointments, shopping, social outings, religious services, volunteer activities and other day-to-day needs.  In the words of one passenger, “I can’t imagine not having Neighbor Ride available.  Your volunteers are truly an exceptional group of people.”

You can help give seniors the lift they need to remain active and independent by volunteering as a Neighbor Ride driver. Flexible and rewarding daytime, evening and weekend volunteer opportunities are available. Drivers simply choose to provide rides that both fit their schedules and are convenient to their homes, offices and daily routines.  Parents are welcome to bring their children along when volunteering.
