Wrestling: Wilde Lake Tops Howard, Centennial in Tri-Meet
Centennial, Howard get roughed up on the mat.
The Centennial and Howard High wrestling teams got lessons Tuesday on what it's going to take for them to become contenders in Howard County.
Wilde Lake pushed both teams around the mat in a tri-meet at Howard, defeating the Eagles, 53-28, after blowing through the Lions' lineup, 76-6. Centennial defeated Howard in the finale, 44-25.
The Wildecats (7-3) went on a pinning frenzy against Howard (2-2), getting falls in 10 of the 11 contested matches. Wilde Lake got five more pins against Centennial (1-1), jumping to a 53-10 lead before the Eagles ended the match with three straight falls of their own to make it respectable.

"Wilde Like is one of the tougher teams in the county," said Centennial coach Dave Roogow. "I would have liked to have of course won the match….I think at the end of the year we should be able to do a little better against some of those guys when we see them in the counties.
"But we put up 28 points against them, so I'm not too upset with that."

Centennial's defending state champion Nathan Kraisser (125 pounds) improved to 7-0 with two first-period falls. The junior needed a total of only 2 minutes, 13 seconds to score his fifth and sixth pins of the season.
"I was trying to work out some new stuff and just keep working," said Kraisser, who was coming off a 1-0 victory over Matt Kibblehouse of Salesianum (Delaware) in the championship of the War on the Shore tournament in Salisbury on Saturday.
"Wilde Lake has a good team," Kraisser said. "They have some great upper weights and (Alex) Polonsky down low. They're looking pretty solid. They should be a top contender."
Centennial's Hutson Baumann (135) joined Kraisser with two falls. Macon Stanley (130), and Joey Wysocki (152) also had a pair of victories for the Eagles.
Howard was coming off a 42-24 victory over Carver Vo-Tech in which all seven wrestlers who competed for the Lions scored pins. "We sure got worked tonight, that's for sure," said Howard co-coach Doug Smith.
Wilde Lake's junior defending state champ, Polonsky, got a pair of falls along with teammates Tola Morakinyo (140), Josh Bittner (160) and county titlist Alvin Harris (189).
