VIDEO: Oakland Mills' Greg Whittington Officially Signs Intent to Join Georgetown Hoyas

The Oakland Mills senior basketball star had already said he'd be going to Georgetown. His signature this past Friday made it official.

His friends and loved ones were there this past Friday, as were staff members from his school, Oakland Mills High in Columbia. Members of the press were there, too.

A couple of items on the table pointed to why: Greg Whittington, a high-school senior and basketball star, was signing his intent to play at Georgetown University, a college steeped in tradition and success.

Whittington had already made his choice, that Georgetown was where the highly recruited power forward would go. But with this signature, that choice became official.

Said Whittington: “This means I got to work hard, keep my grades up, work harder so that I can get to the NBA hopefully, and just bring a lot of talent to Georgetown.”

His coach at Oakland Mills, Jon Browne, is looking forward to the rare moments when he can see Whittington in action.

“I’m very excited,” Browne said. “He’s close. I can actually see him play if I get the opportunity during our season to get down to D.C. I’m real happy.”
