Glenelg Country Basketball Star Miles to Transfer

He will be joining the state champion Milford Mill team.

In the information age, nothing is a secret for very long. This was evident Tuesday, as the news that Glenelg Country School basketball phenom Isaiah Miles would be leaving the Dragons—and joining two-time defending class 3A state champion Milford Mill—spread quickly from the moment the forward announced his decision on Facebook.

“I just wanna thank all my friends from Glenelg who helped make my 3 years of high school a great experience,” Miles wrote. “I wanna thank my dragon teammates for being like a second family 2 me. I love everyone of yall. Imma miss Glenelg Country. Once a dragon always a dragon....bt im proud 2 say that i am a MILLER now!”

The Millers defeated the Centennial Eagles this past season, 56-44, to capture their second title in as many years.

Last season for the Dragons, the 6-foot-8 Miles averaged 18.8 points, 13.4 rebounds and 2.75 blocks per game. Miles will add both size and superior outside-shooting (41 3-pointers in the 2010-11 season) to an already formidable Milford Mill team.

“I am very excited,” Miles said. “There’s going to be a lot of pressure on me, but I can handle it.”

Miles was the leading scorer on last season’s Glenelg Country team, which finished with a 27-4 record and the MIAA-B championship. So it is a bit of a shock that Miles would decide to leave Glenelg Country now. If Miles had stayed, the Dragons would have returned four of five starters from their championship team.

Instead, Gleneg Country is left with some big shoes to fill as they make the jump to the MIAA-A conference next season.

Instead, Miles will be joining a team that has won back-to-back state titles.

“I left because I felt that [Milford Mill head] coach [Albert] Holly could get me more ready for the next level, and not only teach me to become a better player but a better man,” Miles said.

Holly declined to comment for this article.
