Livable Cities Expert Speaking in Columbia

What if everything we did in Columbia was good for 8 year olds and 80 year olds? We’d end up with cities that are good for all — 8-80 cities. You are invited to hear Gil Peñalosa, the internationally-renowned livable city advisor. He'll speak on "Creating 8-80 Cities: Walking, Cycling & Public Places for All" on Thursday, April 7, from 7-9 pm at the Bain Center in Columbia.

Co-sponsored by Columbia Association and Bike Maryland. Registration is desired but not required: Event.RSVP@ColumbiaAssociation.com. The Bain Center is located at 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, 21044.

Mr. Peñalosa is the Executive Director of the 8-80 Cities. He also works as Senior Consultant for the celebrated Danish firm Gehl Architects. And he serves on the Boards of Directors of American Trails, Ciclovias of the Americas, and City Parks Alliance. As the former Commissioner of Parks, Sports and Recreation in Bogota, Colombia, Mr. Peñalosa was instrumental in creating the "new Ciclovia" — care-free Sundays — today a program that sees 1.3 million people walk, run, skate and bike along 75 miles of city streets
