Atholton High Grad Earns Academic Honor
Towson University senior goalie Jocelyn Papciak of Columbia is recognized following strong four-year career.
Towson University senior goalie Jocelyn Papciak, a graduate of Atholton High School, was named a first-team selection on the Capital One Academic All-District II team as picked by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
She is the first women's soccer player from Towson to be so honored since 2004. The Columbia resident was one of 12 student-athletes who was chosen and is just the second Towson women's soccer player to earn academic All-District II first-team honors.
"Jocelyn embodies everything that you could ask for in being a complete student-athlete," Towson Coach Greg Paynter said in a statement released by the university. "She has been a great representative of Towson University and our women's soccer program over the last four years and I am very proud that she has earned this award.
"Jocelyn has been an exceptional leader for us both on the field, in the
classroom and in the community during her career," Paynter added. "This is not just an award that is given out as a result of one good season, but it is for an outstanding effort over the course of a career both on the field and in the classroom."
She had 104 saves in 17 games this season for the Tigers. She ranks 10th in school history with 10 shutouts and had 308 career saves, third-best on the school list.
