February is for (Dog) Lovers

February is for Lovers and You Love your Dog, Right?

EverythingDogBlog #123: Celebrate your Canines (especially the goddesses! [see photo])

February* is National Pet Dental Health Month (see logo) and Responsible Pet Owner’s Month (just google ‘responsible pet owners month’ for lots of ideas) and Spay/Neuter Awareness Month with World Spay Day on the 25th (sponsored by the HSUS) AND Cat Health Month! Whew – that’s a lot for a short month.

We all celebrate Groundhog Day on February 2nd and hope for spring. There is even a movie about this day which you may have seen over and over and over. . . !

Have A Heart for Chained Dogs Week starts February 9th, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is the 10th and 11th, featuring agility competition for the first time, and Pet Theft Awareness Day is the 14th – why? Because we love our pets, that’s why! Then, on the 20th you can celebrate Love Your Pet Day (6 out of 10 American families have pets) and how about an extra special walk with your dog on February 22nd, Walking the Dog Day?

I think my favorite is February 23rd – International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day. See the photo, Biscuit Love, above. And here are nine homemade dog treat recipes! (If I can make them, you can make them! Your dog will love you for it.) (http://www.thekitchn.com/cookies-for-canines-homemade-d-135078)

*Brush your dog's teeth twice a day if possible and always use dog toothpaste, never human toothpaste. Specially formulated dental rinses and gels, treats and chews also help.
