All Clear After Waterloo Elementary School Evacuation

Power was turned off as a precaution, officials said.

An odor in the building led to the evacuation of students and staff at Waterloo Elementary School Tuesday morning, where power and phone service were out until after 1 p.m., according to a notification sent to parents.

The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services linked the odor to the generator, so the school's power was turned off as a precaution, the notification said.

The building in the 5900 block of Waterloo Road was deemed safe before noon, the notification said.

"There are no safety concerns, and students and staff have been given clearance to reenter the building," the notice said. "All are safe and inside the school."

As of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, the school was without power and phone service, according to the report. By 1:25 p.m., the school reported full power and phone service had been restored.
