Local McDonald's celebrates Atholton High School's Haroon Rashed.
history teacher Haroon Rashed, Howard County's reigning Teacher of the Year, was named one of five finalists for Maryland Teacher of the Year.
Tuesday night, the McDonald's restaurant on Harpers Farm Road threw a party to honor Rashed. Community members, school staff members, students and Maryland State Department of Education officials lauded the outstanding teacher.
McDonald's officials presented him with gifts, including $500 to buy supplies for his school.

At an awards dinner Oct. 14, Baltimore County's Teacher of the Year, Windsor Mills Middle School English and language arts teacher Joshua Parker, was named the state's top teacher.
