Oakland Mills High Loses Power

All afternoon and evening activities on Tuesday were cancelled due to the power outage.

Oakland Mills High School experienced a power outage on Tuesday afternoon about an hour before classes ended, according to school officials.

There was an issue with the wiring on a transformer outside the school that resulted in power being cut, according to school officials.

"It was the wiring coming out of the transformer," said Wayne Crosby, director of school facilities  "It's getting old, we experience this from time to time."

Despite losing power, students finished their last period classes after the school used its backup generator to operate emergency lighting, according to Crosby.

Crosby said BGE is now on-site at the school fixing the wiring. He expects them to be there until 8 or 9 p.m. tonight, and that power will be restored by Wednesday morning.

As a result of the outage, all afternoon and evening activities at the school have been cancelled.
