BB Gun Causes Modified Lockdown at Talbott Springs

The lockdown was the result of suspicious activity near the playground, according to the school.

Talbott Springs Elementary School went into a modified lockdown Tuesday afternoon around 3:15 p.m. after a parent notified police that she had seen juveniles near the playground possibly placing a gun in a backpack, according to police.

Police responded to the scene and located two teenagers, a 13-year-old male and a 14-year-old female, according to Sherry Llewellyn, spokesperson for Howard County Police.

The two students led police to a nearby trash can where the officers recovered a BB gun. The teens were charged as juveniles with disrupting school activties and may face other charges, according to Llewellyn.

After the BB gun was found, the police ruled the scene was no longer dangerous and students were dismissed.
