Juvenile Altercation Leads to Lockdown of Two Columbia Schools

Police said a school resource officer called for backup after seeing juveniles fighting outside near the schools.

Update - Thursday 11 a.m. - Police said three males were charged after a police officer who had heard about a possible fight in the 6700 block of Cradlerock Way, outside of Lake Elkhorn Middle School, responded to the scene and prevented it from happening.

It was unknown what the altercation was about, said a police spokesperson. Two males, one 13, the other 12, were charged with trespassing and a 14-year-old was charged with disorderly conduct. Police said they were not students at Lake Elkhorn Middle.

Juveniles fighting outside near Lakehorn Middle School, Cradlerock Elementary School and the East Columbia Library caused a modified lockdown of the three buildings on Wednesday afternoon.

A police spokesperson said a school resource officer came upon the juveniles fighting outside around 3 p.m., called for assistance and mutiple police officers arrived.

The schools and library were in a modified lockdown for about 10 minutes as police broke up the fight, according to police.

No one was injured, police said. Information about their age, genders and the exact location of the fight was not immediately available because the officer was transporting the juveniles when police provided the initial information, according to a spokesperson.
