Howard County Schools to Close Early Friday

Schools will close 1.5 hours early due to possible snow storm Friday afternoon.

All Howard County public schools will close 1.5 hours early Friday due to an expected afternoon snow storm.

All aftercare programs, sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Department of Recreation & Parks in Howard County public schools have also been canceled, according to the school system.

All school-sponsored and community-sponsored events, including high school athletic practices and games scheduled for this evening, are canceled.

Baltimore, Carroll and Montgomery schools are among those that have announced earlier on Friday that they will close schools early Friday.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook and Winter Weather Advisory have been issued by the National Weather Service Friday, and both include Howard and Carroll counties.

The winter weather advisory is in effect from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday afternoon and and is calling for 1 to 3 inches of accumulation.

Officials warned Friday afternoon's commute could be treacherous due to snow.
