Howard County Public Schools Start Aug. 27

The end date is up in the air, based on weather.

For students in Howard County public schools, the school year begins Aug. 27.

Howard County is one of 17 jurisdictions in the state of Maryland starting the 2012–2013 academic year the last Monday in August.

Howard County schools will have their last day on June 20, the latest in the state, according to the Maryland State Department of Education.

"The calendar says the last day is June 20; however, that includes five inclement weather days," said Deborah Summers, spokeswoman for the Howard County Public School System.

"So if we use two [inclement weather] days, the last day wil be June 18," said Summers. "If we don’t use any inclement weather days, the last day will be June 13."

Prince George’s County begins the school year the earliest in Maryland, on Aug. 20. Its last day will be June 7.
