Vegetable Gardening Classes at Howard County Extension Office

On February 25, Howard County Master Gardeners (MG) will be holding a series of one hour vegetable gardening classes at University of Maryland Extension offices located at 3300 North Ridge Road, Suite 240, Ellicott City Md.  The following one hour classes will be presented with breakout sessions after the class to answer questions.

At 10 am, MG Kent Phillips will demonstrate how to start vegetable transplants for lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, bok choi, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cucumbers and squash under florescent lights.  Attendees will learn what types of florescent fixtures and bulbs work best, when to start each particular type of plant, care of the plant while indoors and how to harden transplants off prior to planting them in the garden.

At 11 am, Gloria Lambert will teach “Vegetable Gardening for Beginners”.  This class will teach novice vegetable gardeners several ways to create a vegetable garden from scratch, where to locate the garden, how to do a soil test and interpret the results, the best vegetables to grow in central Maryland, and care of the garden through the gardening year.
