Forum on Emergency Care Services

Its 9:00 p.m.; you or your child are sick; you don't think you should
wait until morning to seek medical care; but what should you do?
There are a number of choices but which is the right choice.

Should you call your doctor and will your doctor be available? Is
there a number to call for help listed on your health insurance card?
Do you know where the nearest Urgent Care facility is located and the hours it is open and should you go there? Should you jump in your car and drive to the emergency room at the hospital? Should you call 911?

Sometimes it is hard to know what to do even if you have all of the
information you need. It is certainly more difficult if you don't
know what medical help is available and what is the most appropriate choice for you.

The Howard County Citizens Association (HCCA) and the Howard County Health Department are jointly sponsoring a meeting to help inform Howard County citizens about the health care options available to them in an urgent situation and which option would be most appropriate under the circumstances.

The Urgent/Emergency Health Care Choices Meeting will be held on Monday, May 23rd, 7:00 p.m. at The Hawthorn Center in Hickory Ridge, 6175 Sunny Spring, Columbia.

The speakers will be Dr. Peter Beilenson, Howard County Health
Officer; Delegate Shane Pendergrass, District 13, Maryland General
Assembly, Vice-Chair, Health and Government Operations Committee; Victor A. Broccolino, President and CEO, Howard County General Hospital, a Member of Johns Hopkins Medicine; Dr. Walter Atha, Medical Director of Emergency Services, Howard County General Hospital and Alex Adler, Employee Benefits Consultant.

Representatives and information about Urgent Care facilities serving Howard County also will be available at the meeting.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be
served.
