2nd Annual Open House for Suicide Prevention

Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center plans an open house on Sept. 16 to mark World Suicide Prevention Day.

The theme of the open house is Life Matters. The event will feature a talk, “An Exploration in Suicide Awareness,” a panel discussion with survivors of suicide loss, an educational documentary and stress relief acupressure. There will also be a 50/50 raffle to benefit Grassroots, and refreshments will be served.

Grassroots executive director Andrea Ingram says learning about suicide prevention is even more important now than it ever has been.

“The open house is a good opportunity to learn more about Suicide Prevention,” she says. “Grassroots is dealing with this issue more and more through the hotline, mobile crisis team and the survivors of suicide support group.”

Grassroots provides the county’s only emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis intervention services. Professional crisis counselors staff its 24-hour hotline; see walk-in clients in need of immediate counseling; operate the Mobile Crisis Team, which responds to community emergencies, and manage the county's emergency shelter for homeless men, women and families.

The open house will take place from 4-7 pm at Grassroots, 6700 Freetown Road.
