Cradlerock School Mourning Death of Fourth-Grader

Tyler Khan died Thursday, one day after a motor vehicle collision.

Tyler Khan, a fourth-grader at Cradlerock School in Columbia, died earlier this week following a motor vehicle collision, according to the school's principal, Jason McCoy, who informed students' parents in an email sent out Friday afternoon.

"We are all affected by a wide range of emotions and a deep sense of loss over the death of one so young," McCoy wrote. "I am certain that you will join us in keeping the Khan family in your thoughts in the days and weeks ahead as they face this difficult time."

Tyler had been injured in a crash on Wednesday. He died on Thursday, according to Patti Caplan, spokeswoman for the Howard County Public School System. The crash happened outside of Howard County, she said. No other information was available.

Counselors were made available to students on Friday. The school is collecting cards and remembrances to give to Tyler's family, according to McCoy.
