Power Out for More Than 1K in Columbia

An elementary school canceled after-school activities because of an outage.

A power outage that affected more than 1,000 customers in Columbia caused a change in plans for two schools Tuesday afternoon.

All after-school and evening activities were canceled at Bryant Woods Elementary because of the outage, the Howard County Public School System reported Tuesday afternoon.

At 3:25 p.m. on Tuesday, after the announcement about Bryant Woods, BGE reported that nearly 1,000 outages were under investigation in Howard County.

By 8:20 p.m., BGE said there were more than 1,500 outages in Howard County. Most were concentrated in the Wilde Lake area. Because of the outage, Wilde Lake Middle School canceled evening activities.
