To Boldly Go: Columbia Comics Shop Celebrates Release of 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Comics to Astonish in eastern Columbia is celebrating the release of the new Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises" with specially prepared comics giveaways on Thursday from 12 noon to 8 p.m.

DC Entertainment and Comics to Astonish, a comics specialty store in eastern Columbia, are declaring Thursday, July 19, “The Dark Knight Rises” Day to celebrate the arrival of one of this summer's most anticipated films, which will open in theaters and IMAX® the following day.

Fans who visit Comics to Astonish on July 19 will receive a free, special-edition comic book featuring several exclusive previews of current and upcoming Batman comic books and graphic novels.

More than 400 copies of the free Batman issue will be handed out between 12 noon and 8 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.

The free "Batman: Earth One" Special Preview Edition comic book features the first chapter of the highly anticipated graphic novel written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Gary Frank.

Also available on Thursday will be a preview of "Batman: Volume 1, The Court of Owls," the New York Times #1 best-selling graphic novel collection of the hit series written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Greg Capullo.

“The arrival of 'The Dark Knight Rises' in theaters is a seminal moment for comic book readers and moviegoers;” stated John Cunningham, DC's entertainment vice president of marketing.

“What better way to mark the occasion than with a free Batman comic book that rewards a broad range of fans and taps into the unprecedented excitement surrounding this film?” he added.

“With several top-selling Batman-related comics and 'The Dark Knight Rises' arriving in movie theaters, this is a great time to be a Batfan,” said Keegan Conrad, owner of Comics to Astonish.
